How was the upbringing of our kings like? How did they spend their early years? How did they play, what dangers and joys did they experience, what illnesses or threats did they face? After all, our monarchs also had a childhood, like other children… Or did they?

 

This book chronicles the early years of each of the 34 men and women who reigned in Portugal, through childhoods that varied greatly over the centuries. And, of course, we cannot forget how this same upbringing conditioned and shaped them… for better or for worse.
